The first annual Topia Jazz Workshop will be held in
the scenic town of Adams in the Berskhires at the base of Mt. Greylock.
This weeklong program of small jazz ensembles, master classes, private
lessons and concerts is for jazz students ages 17 and up and will be taught
by professional jazz musicians from around the country.
Housing for students is available at the beautiful new Topia Inn directly
behind the Topia Arts Center on the Ashuwillticook bike trail.
Ensembles:
On Sunday, July 30th students are auditioned by faculty. On
the following morning, all student ensembles are posted at Topia Inn.
Each ensemble is directed by a faculty member. Ensembles meet
two times a day, working on jazz repertoire, improvisational concepts
and ensemble playing.
Master Classes: All students attend a master class
each day for one hour, working on their instrument under the direction
of appropriate faculty.
Clinics: Each a day a clinic led by a different faculty
musician takes place after lunch, covering a wide variety of musical issues.
Private Lessons: Students will have the opportunity
over the course of their week to schedule a private lesson with an instructor
at their mutual convenience.
Faculty Concerts: Each evening in the theater or café,
a concert will be given by the faculty and special guests. This is open
to the public.
Student Concert: On Friday night August 4th, the
students will give a concert with the ensemble they have been working
with all week.
